Sailing experience
We want you to enjoy your holiday but most importantly safely. For chartering
bareboat the skipper should have sailing experience equivalent to day
skipper, i.e. basic navigation, sailing and boat handling skills. Demonstration
of experience of previous charters is very useful especially if chartering
one of the larger yachts. We ask that the skipper is assisted by at least
one competent crew member. Some countries require sailing licences for
bareboat charter. If you do not have an RYA qualification, you may need
the Mediterranean Cruising Association (MCA) International Helmsman’s
Certificate. If you are in doubt at all please ask. We recommend clients
have a professional skipper for a few days to gain confidence if they
are at all unsure.
Embarkation and disembarkation
The price list for each destination shows the day(s) the charters commence,
sometimes this may be varied by special arrangement. Whilst it may vary
between operators, embarkation in the Mediterranean is normally around
16-17.00 hrs. The yacht must be back at the base by 18.00hrs for the last
night of the charter and vacated by around 09.00 hrs on the last day.
This is to allow for cleaning and maintenance of the yacht between charters.
Your security deposit may be at risk if you do not comply with this requirement.
There are often arrangements for you to stay on board longer if it is
not a tight “turnaround”, and operators will help you store
luggage wherever possible.
Security deposit
You have to leave a refundable security deposit for all bareboat charters
against the possibility of damage to the yacht, loss of equipment or its
late return. The amount varies according to the size of the yacht and
the operator. The deposit is payable to the operator before embarkation
and returned, less any necessary deductions, at the end of your charter.
See the price list for details and form of payment. For some yachts there
is an option of you paying a non refundable security insurance premium
thereby reducing the security deposit.
Yacht insurance
The yachts are fully insured under marine insurance policies against loss,
damage and third party indemnity. It is important that previous sailing
experience is accurately shown on the Booking Form for full indemnity
of any risks. You are expected to take all reasonable care. In the event
of loss or damage to the yacht and its equipment your liability is limited
to the amount of your security deposit unless such damage or loss was
caused by your negligence or willful damage.
Passports & Visas
All people traveling in your party should be in possession of a passport
which should be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. Visitors
to Turkey holding British passports pay an entry visa on arrival (currently
£10/person you will need a £10 note, as no change is given).
Other passports holders should check with their relevant consulates.
